Tribal Voice

Getting under the skin of the piercing businessTribal Voice Shop Front
The history of body piercing is a long one.   Mummified remains discovered over 5,000 years ago were found with pierced ears and expanded earlobes. Nose piercing is documented back as far as 1500BC, with lip and tongue piercings found in African and American tribal cultures for many hundreds of years.

Whether part of an initiation ritual, a coming-of-age ceremony, a wedding, or purely a statement of expression, there is no doubting the popularity of piercings.

And at Tribal Voice in Torquay, you can choose to have just about any part of your body pierced.
Alternative fashion
Annette Cooper, manager of Tribal Voice, said, " The general rule is if you can pinch it, we can pierce it."
Primarily an alternative fashion retailer, Tribal Voice sells a varied range of Goth, Emo, and Punk clothing, make up and accessories.   With two shops in the South West of England, their premises in Plymouth, established 19 years ago, is the longest running body piercing studio in the town.

Tribal Voice JewelleryTheir shop in Torquay has been around for even longer; an impressive 20 years. And since their move to larger premises in the town last July, the extra space means they have been able to add a piercing studio.
Body jewellery
Annette tells us that nose piercings are currently the most popular. There are plenty of others to choose from however, including one of the more recent trends for dermal anchors. These are inserted into a flat part of the body as a shaped implant just under the skin, using a special needle. Some customers may have an anchor under the skin of a finger as a ' dermal ring', or others have multiple dermals to form the outline of a shape like a star or a heart, for example.
Between the two locations, Tribal Voice carries one of the most extensive ranges of body jewellery in the country. These include masses of different studs, rings, and barbells in just about every shape, material and colour you can think of.Tribal Voice Nemisis Goods
Skulls and reapers
As well as body   jewellery, Annette says other big sellers in the shop include Nemesis goods like skulls, reapers, dragons, fairy figurines, soft furnishings, and also incense and oil burners.
